Silver Fern - new growth. Maori believe that the koru represents new life, growth and development. They also eat these new fronds, steamed. I prefer to photograph them!
Hi guys! This year I'll be putting up fewer shots, but hopefully improving the quality at the same time. Sort of a 'best of' if you like. This community is terrific in so many ways - I love it even if I don't often comment. The people on here make it a great place to be. I'm also writing a health-related blog - if you're interested, hop on over to http://healthskills.wordpress.com/ and make yourself known!

Thank you all for your kind comments. You're right, it does look like some sort of weird animal/insect! But only close-up ;-)

@kurt: Thank you for reviewing! My first go at doing macro, haven't had much practice, but I'm encouraged to do more now! This was taken out my back door, where we have a lot of native ferns growing. Almost like taking time-lapsed photo's, because they're slowly unfurling each day!
ooh its oh so tactile this one :)

@shutterfirefly: You wouldn't really want to eat it though!! Nice to look at but prickly as to touch!
