A first attempt at playing with photoshop, I'm not sure whether I really like this. I would like more grittiness/grain, and perhaps a little distortion in focus, but not entirely sure how I'd achieve this. Never mind, I do like the expression I caught on her face! To view the original, go to http://adiemusfree.blogspot.com/ and look at Friday Jan 12... Sorry I don't know how to put the url in any other way!!
Hi guys! This year I'll be putting up fewer shots, but hopefully improving the quality at the same time. Sort of a 'best of' if you like. This community is terrific in so many ways - I love it even if I don't often comment. The people on here make it a great place to be. I'm also writing a health-related blog - if you're interested, hop on over to http://healthskills.wordpress.com/ and make yourself known!

@Ee Yuing: Thank you so much, Michelle is very sweet and beautiful - but only when she's posing (or when she's asleep!). No, truly, she is very pretty.
WOW! For first time and long time with photoshop I REALLY like it. First thing i thought was what a beautiful face and eyes, Secondly, did you put some type of effect on it to make it darker around the edges?

@Sheldon Hull: Hi there There were a few steps! I started with using the 'bandaid' thingy to even up her skin tone and take out most of her moles (at her request!!). I did a bit of tweaking with curves, then applied the 2o'clock spotlight but moved it around, then I desaturated and altered the hue, then I think I went back and played with the curves again, just to make sure it looked OK. The darker effect around the edges happens when you put the spotlight on and play with the light intensity and width of the light. Spent a while on it just fiddling!! but it was fun.
Congrats, Adiemus. You've got an A1 portrait here.

@Srinivas Koduri: Thank you for saying this - I showed Michelle and she's got a grin a mile wide!!
she's lucky to have such a wonderful portrait of herself.

I really love this portrait. These soft tones are enough, I don't think that additing grain would really improve the portrait.

kool composition....nice post-processing as well

You´ve done an excellent job! Absolutely love the soft tones.

I'm impressed with this shot. THe photoshop effect is good...did you add the vignetting? Keep it up...I can't give you any advice about using PS because I have no idea either.
12 Jan 2007 9:07am
@Colour blind: See the comment I made earlier about the vignette - it was an after-effect really, as I didn't intend to make it happen!! But it happened using the spotlight tool.
you're a fast-learner with the PS, Adiemus! This is a beautiful shot. great work with the lighting and tones. fantastic job.

@Stu: Thank you, I did a lot of google searches and a lot of time just playing about.
Great portrait. Just excellent!

Beautiful portrait!

Yea I agree with your comment. The expression on her face is great all by itself. I find that when I try and mess with a picture in photoshop I loose focus on the original concept of the photo and get to caught up with the slight details. To me a great picture is one that as soon as you look at it conveys some depth or feeling or emotion. In my opinion the original shot is often the best at that. I like this photo a lot, and would love to see the pre-photoshop version.

@Camera Dan: Hi there! I've put the link into my blog to show you the pre-processing image. Cheers!
To everyone who has commented - thank you so much! I feel really encouraged to continue 'playing' with photoshop. Thank you to my daughter, and all the comments you have made about her - I think she's beautiful, and it's a real buzz to find other people think so too!!

Amazing difference with original one! This portrait is very very beautiful! Congratulations!

@Sébastien: Thank you, the photoshop thing is a bit new to me, and it can make a real difference!
This is better than the previous portrait. Both her eyes are closer to being tack sharp. I still think her left eye needs to be sharper. Lovely portrait. Cheers!@

@Daniel: Thanks!!
Beautiful. It looks like a glamor shot! If your daughter ever wants to go into acting, she's got her own photographer at her disposal, it looks like. =)
I especially like the fade to black around the edges, which I don't see at all in the original.

@Evelyn: Yes, she's got me well around her little finger...It's nice to know I can call on her to model for me, if and when she's 'in the mood'!!!! Pizza goes a long, long way in bribery terms!
THE PHOTO IS GREAT because you made it so
