On the way to Kaikoura, is a small township called Cheviot. At Cheviot is a wonderful cricket pavilion on the grounds of an old homestead. The homestead is long gone, but the trees remain. It's a wonderfully peaceful place to visit to break up a trip that can be a little slow, especially when we're towing a boat!
Hi guys! This year I'll be putting up fewer shots, but hopefully improving the quality at the same time. Sort of a 'best of' if you like. This community is terrific in so many ways - I love it even if I don't often comment. The people on here make it a great place to be. I'm also writing a health-related blog - if you're interested, hop on over to http://healthskills.wordpress.com/ and make yourself known!

beautiful green and fresh air on this image. low angle is very nice idea.
@Makoto: You have no idea how much the grass tickled when I got down on my knees! Shouldn't have worn shorts I think!
Green is always restful - and looks moreso in this lovely framing of trees. The big old tree at the front makes a wonderful frame!

@Anne: I did try to get the old tree into the frame, because the lines of the branches lead your eye into the middle.
This is such a peaceful and serene scene. Thanks for your comment earlier!

@jennifer radio: It is, as its off the main highway and all you can hear are cows and sheep and the wonderful call of native birds like bellbird and grey warbler...
Wonderful shot!

@Colour blind: Thank you, I wanted to walk in closer too, but thought I'd be like Little Red Ridinghood if I did, who knows where I might end up!
Looks very European as well! (i found your forests to be typically "kiwi" but this one looks like a dutch forest could look like)

@Roland: It was planted by the early English settlers, so most of the trees are imports! Our bush is often dark (except in the beech forests), but this is wonderful in autumn when the leaves turn and then fall. More photo opps will come up later in the year!!
Very nice placement of the horizon so low. The trees and complexity of the scene are wonderful.
