Really playing with the images!
Hi guys! This year I'll be putting up fewer shots, but hopefully improving the quality at the same time. Sort of a 'best of' if you like. This community is terrific in so many ways - I love it even if I don't often comment. The people on here make it a great place to be. I'm also writing a health-related blog - if you're interested, hop on over to http://healthskills.wordpress.com/ and make yourself known!

I think this is my favorite one of the series, which is saying something, since all were wonderful. I love how there are few sharply defined lines in this image, and how the whiteness of the birds blends into the white of the sky and water. It looks like a Chinese ink drawing or a watercolor instead of a photograph. How'd you get this effect?

@dYe: Thank you so much, I'm tossing up between this one and yesterdays... I honestly cannot remember exactly what I did, but I do remember increasing contrast, then increasing brightness, repeating that a few times so all I got was the few lines there. I think I did a gaussian blur layer then selectively erased the birds so they remained in focus, but I'm not exactly sure. I wish I did remember because it worked out so well!!!
I officially call you the master of bird shots! Also good post processing job.

@Behrooz: Thank you, I think there is something in the idea that if you take a lot of photo's eventually you'll end up with some you like. Of course it does help to have someone else feeding them with fish guts!! I don't think I can do any other type of bird, just the common ole seagull!
quelle belle série

great processing, it really highlights their elegance

@jc: And to think I never realised they were elegant until I took these shots! It has quite changed my feelings about them...
Your series are a delight to the senses! Keep up...

I agree - you are master of bird shots! Another winner!

Simply beautiful!

I loved the series too! This one is quite different with the great PP work. Really beautiful result!

@Anne: It's definitely a different and quite experimental way of processing. I think I'd like to try this one again - but can't remember exactly what I did!
Ach! Truly excellent! The tones are so delicate, and the birds so graceful.

The post processing is intricately detailed and doesn't take away or distract from the seagulls; a very nice subtle touch. The wing motion of the gull closest to the water has been captured beautifully and telling from the ripples the one further back has just come from the water; as Still metions it has balletic qualities. Poetry in motion, nicely taken!

@Chris Sullivan: Thank you so much - from someone who's work I admire so much, it's a great compliment!
Poetry in motion as Chris said. And I agree completely. I love the effect. Very beautiful!

In my opinion, this is the best shot in the series. Great work.

@Pero: Thank you! I think I am starting to almost like these birds!
Wonderfully effective over exposure.

@Michael Zhang: Thank you! I wanted to eliminate any distractions and bring the eye straight to the beautiful lines of their wings.
Your modification works fine! It feels free & easy. And I like your series of seagulls a lot!

@Lucca: Thanks, they are easy to find, no modelling fees (well, apart from fish guts) and despite their being noisy, I've grown to love their grace in the air.
Day by day it is getting better. I have no answer to this one :) Well done!!! Very good post processing.

@Prem: Thank you, as I think I mentioned earlier, I wish I could remember exactly what I did now!!
