A series of images dedicated to the beach artist at New Brighton beach, Christchurch. His name is Peter Donnelly. He generously allowed me to photograph him as he worked. If you're ever visiting New Brighton, go to the Pier at around 1030 when it's low tide, and he'll be there. Take a look at a completed work (not a lovely photograph though) at my blog http://www.adiemusfree.blogspot.com/
Hi guys! This year I'll be putting up fewer shots, but hopefully improving the quality at the same time. Sort of a 'best of' if you like. This community is terrific in so many ways - I love it even if I don't often comment. The people on here make it a great place to be. I'm also writing a health-related blog - if you're interested, hop on over to http://healthskills.wordpress.com/ and make yourself known!

I like the subject and I'm wainting to see the series. How did you manage the angle in this photo?

@Behrooz: All (or most) of these photo's were taken from the pier which is a good few metres above the beach, and stretches out over the water.
Artist capturing another artist ... simply fantastic image! Love the angle in this one, too.

superb image. He is working bare foot. Its a nice feeling to be experiencing the tides touching flesh in foot.

@Srikaanth: Yes I agree, great to touch sand underfoot and cold water between the toes!
Great viewpoint - love this photo and looking forward to seeing more!

I like his pose. He looks like he's thinking about what masterpiece to create next.
27 Feb 2007 6:49am
@dYe: He was, he stood there for about 4 - 5 minutes before starting...
Great angle and love the shadow!

27 Feb 2007 9:10am
@anden: You'll see more soon!!
His isolation in the frame reflects well his mental isolation as he prepares. Lovely!
27 Feb 2007 9:16am
@Stu: Thank you! I also tried to show the amount of space he seems to clear around him - some sort of psychic blank canvas that people respect even if they don't like the works that he does.
Lovely image. So simply yet so compelling.

@Tim: Stood above him on the pier overlooking the beach.

What an extrordinary photo. You can 'feel' it. It is rare that anyone can capture a sense of tension like this photo delivers. Wow. Great one Bronnie.

I like this moment of concentration before the performance. The angle is perfect because allows to see the shadow. Good shot!
27 Feb 2007 5:01pm
@Pawel: Thanks, although the deep shadow and bright contrast made exposure an interesting experience!
I love the shadow and his contemplation at the blank canvas before him.
