Beach artist beginsPosted by Adiemus (Christchurch, New Zealand) on 28 February 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture. The scale of these drawings is amazing. He has an image in his mind before he begins, but no drawings - so he starts where he starts, and just keeps on drawing. Hi guys!

Srikaanth from Bengalooru, IndiaMy curiosity is growing!! What is he drawing?!! Shadow is superbly captured. 28 Feb 2007 5:40am Sidonie from Sydney, AustraliaThis is great - I was wondering what the man looked like, as distinct from his work. Thanks - beautiful capture, elegant posture. 28 Feb 2007 7:10am @Sidonie: He's not so keen on having his face caught - so most of these close-ups are with my 70-300mm lens. I'm not so happy with this lens, it's a bit prone to fuzziness and a bit of distortion. Must keep on saving! badala from Leiria, PortugalA perfect subject, beautiful colors, and good eye for composition. 28 Feb 2007 7:28am dYe from Cambridge, United StatesJust perfect how the curve of his body echoes the curve of the lines he's drawn, so that he almost becomes a part of of his drawing. I'm really enjoying this series. 28 Feb 2007 7:43am @dYe: I only just realised that when you mentioned it (the curves) - he is like a dancer. I'm glad you're enjoying the series, there are more to come!! Regis from Paris, FranceExcellent shot. You chose the perfect aperture for this shot. 28 Feb 2007 8:18am @Regis: uh, auto everything until I learn how to drive the D50. This is a total learning experience!!! Lazy Aussie from Perth, AustraliaThere's a different one on your blog I prefer than you have here. 28 Feb 2007 8:20am @Lazy Aussie: He's a very approachable guy, probably keen to have his artwork spread around! I usually like to ask because you can get to talk to some really interesting people, I've never had one say no, and their philosophy and way of viewing the world intrigues me. The image you've seen on the blog is surpassed by one that's on its way!!! Keep visiting, and thanks for your comments! Manuela Photography from Hainburg (near Frankfurt/Main), GermanyAnother great one Adiemus! Cannot wait to see the rest... 28 Feb 2007 9:23am Addey Kehinde from London, United KingdomCool capture...I'm enjoying this series. 28 Feb 2007 10:35am Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesI love the sand artists. I've never seen one at work though but the end results are fascinating. Great shot. 28 Feb 2007 10:56am Jerry from Tampa, United StatesGREAT capture - excellent image! Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! 28 Feb 2007 11:09am Jason Kravitz from Brussels, BelgiumBravo Bronnie for the beach boy bonanza :P 28 Feb 2007 11:36am @Jason Kravitz: Yup, I keeps me eyes open on the beach...especially when there're nice boys about! Koushiro from Singapore, SingaporeWow! Sugoi!(beautiful) do you have a picture of the final product? I wanna see!!!! XD 28 Feb 2007 12:21pm @Koushiro: See the link at the intro to this shot. Stu from Kyoto, JapanLove the way this series is progressing. Really tells a story. More to come? 28 Feb 2007 2:25pm @Stu: Oh yes indeed - keep watching! Anne from White Rock, CanadaThis is a really interesting series Bronnie! This is a perfect frame for this photo - its almost like the classic S-shape from the bottom right - through the curve of his body and round the curves at the top, which leads the eye right through the picture! The fuzziness is negligible for the purpose of this photo. I have found that problem with zooms of every description - since I traded my old cameras in which had separate lenses for each focal length - eg a wide angle - a 55mm (so called standard lens) and a 135 mm. They were crystal clear (2 different brands, Nikon and Minolta). So I have to save up too! Separate lenses are more expensive than zooms these days - that is if they even have them to fit my D50. 28 Feb 2007 2:29pm @Anne: They're on their way!! Craiger from Vacaville, California, United StatesAnother well composed photo! Well done! 28 Feb 2007 2:43pm Ella Cooper from Toronto, CanadaI really like the image you used in your about section. THAT shot is totally awesome. This one is very interesting but not as strong. :) 28 Feb 2007 4:00pm @Ella Cooper: Just keep watching! The image I used in the about section is one of my favourites, but there are more!! He's a very photogenic subject, and his movements are both meditative and a sort of dance performance. Jen from Jessup, United StatesBeautiful! I would love to actually watch him work...thank you for sharing! 28 Feb 2007 5:39pm @Jen: Come on down to New Brighton beach almost any day at low tide during the day...oh and visit my place for a Damn Good Coffee afterwards, we're about 5 minutes walk away... frank from amadora, PortugalGood start, good photo, we'll see them growing, I can't wait. 28 Feb 2007 11:19pm Michael Zhang from New York City, United StatesI like this close zoom of him - it really shows just how big his art is - each line is the size of his body. 28 Feb 2007 11:28pm Howard Grill from United StatesWonderful shot. I love the s curves. A series of this from start to finish with the full final beach picture at the end would really make a nice project. 1 Mar 2007 12:29am @Howard Grill: Keep watching Howard, keep watching... Martine Lapointe from Québec, CanadaI like this picture very much. Beatuiful framing and atmosphere. Bravo! 1 Mar 2007 3:18am Zing from Hamilton, New ZealandWhat is he drawing? Can't wait to see it. Great capture, by the way. 1 Mar 2007 4:24am @Zing: Have a look tomorrow! Just a glimpse... Damon Schreiber from Toronto, CanadaWonderful - excellent composition. Don't know if it would help with the sharpness problems you're experiencing with your 70-300 (since I don't see the exif data), but stopping down (to say, f/8 or f/11) can increase sharpness tremendously, and on a beach you should have plenty of light to do that. 1 Mar 2007 5:29pm @Damon Schreiber: Good idea Damon, I think I shot all of these on auto (still a newbie on the D50!!), will have another go on a fine day and see whether it makes a difference. I appreciate the help!! |
