maggie and millie and molly and may
went down to the beach (to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles,and

millie befriended a stranded star
who's rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)
it's always ourselves we find in the sea.

Sorry for the lack of comments recently - I've been slowly returning to work after my concussion, and it looks like it will be about 4 - 6 months before I can feel 'normal' again! Today I have a cold to add to my woes...poor me (!!) Nonetheless, I am still here and reading and appreciating your wonderful comments. Thank you so much for your encouragement!

This year I'll be putting up fewer shots, but hopefully improving the quality at the same time. Sort of a 'best of' if you like.

@Jen: Thanks Jen, I spent almost all yesterday in bed dosed up with paracetamol and lemon tea. Not sure whether I feel any better, but I didn't doooo anything anyway!

@Craiger: Yes, that poem just struck me as a wonderful expression of what the sea and beach does for me! The significance is that this house is nestled into a tiny bay and has rocky pools, sandy bits, lots of crabs and is the kind of place that makes you remember who you really are.

I completely agree with Craiger. I love the house (we don't have houses like that), but the poem blew me away. How beautiful. A concussion isn't a nice thing to have and I can imagine the cold makes it even worse. Take it slow.

@Yvon: Thanks Yvon, as I just put into my comment to Craiger, the poem really represents what this place and places in and around the sea do for me.
These houses are typical of early NZ settlers homes - majority of them are wooden, tiny four bedroomed things with additions all around, and including a veranda. I love veranda's!!

Beautifull house, I hope that you'll share the rest of the bay w/ us, I love the sea, my grandfather was a sailor and I can't be too long w/o see the sea, I understand what you feel, in it. Thks for the lovely poem, and that you'll be getting better sooner. tks.

Love the colours in this one. And the poem, inspirational... but what else can you say about ee cummings? Ye gods, a concussion? Nasty. Our friends have a bach up at Foxton Beach which, surprise surprise, quite resembles yours.

This one takes me back to NZ by the beach in a flash! The bed on the verandah - now that's a sign of a trusting community - and the weatherboard against that dark green is VERY South island. Love your work, Bron, wishing you a speedy recovery.
