This is part of a large limestone outcropping in the mid-Canterbury area. It's a favourite of many photographers, families and boulder-hoppers. Kura Tawhiti means 'treasure from afar' in Maori, and the area is sacred to the Maori.
Hi guys! This year I'll be putting up fewer shots, but hopefully improving the quality at the same time. Sort of a 'best of' if you like. This community is terrific in so many ways - I love it even if I don't often comment. The people on here make it a great place to be. I'm also writing a health-related blog - if you're interested, hop on over to http://healthskills.wordpress.com/ and make yourself known!

So imposing. Wonderful photo. For me it is truly a 'treasure from afar'.

a truly monumental shot (no pun intended). It certainly does impose itself upon the landscape.

Great texture here. Have you manipulated this somehow Bronnie? There's something very interesting going on regarding the contrast between the sky and the rock.

Nice depth to this shot Bronnie. Love the saturation of the sky to contrast with the boulder! And I have seen these myself and they are wondrous. And the Moreaki (spelling?) Boulders down the coast are just incredible too. Thanks for always giving me a trip down memory lane with your shots. ;-D
