...continued from yesterday -
'I won't tell you' chirped piwakawaka 'I'm frightened you'll set fire to the bush and my babies will die'.
Maui said 'No, no the fire is only to keep us warm'.
'That's not what Mahuika the fire goddess says - she wants to keep Tane's forest safe from you and yours, and she has hidden the fire even from me' chirped piwakawaka desperately.
Maui merely shrugged and squeezed a little harder. 'What will happen if I tighten my grip, little bird?' said Maui, changing his hold on the tiny bird.
Piwakawaka was terribly afraid but trying to stay positive.
'Killing me will bring you no closer to the fire you so want' and with a final terrified struggle managed to get free and flit a little distance away - beak open and panting with the effort.
But Maui easily caught her and held her tight in both his large hands.
'I've got you now - you will tell me, or it will be bad for you and for that goddess Mahuika' growled Maui.

Hi guys! This year I'll be putting up fewer shots, but hopefully improving the quality at the same time. Sort of a 'best of' if you like. This community is terrific in so many ways - I love it even if I don't often comment. The people on here make it a great place to be. I'm also writing a health-related blog - if you're interested, hop on over to http://healthskills.wordpress.com/ and make yourself known!
